Stand-Up Horror by PekoeBlaze Stand-Up Horror by PekoeBlaze
"Stand-Up Horror"

This drawing took a longer to draw than I initially expected, but I'm really proud of it. It's based on an idea I had sometime around Halloween 2010 - which was, as the title suggests, the concept of "stand-up horror". This is exactly like stand-up comedy, but the aim is to scare the audience rather than make them laugh.

I don't know, I'd be extremely surprised if I was the first person to ever come up with this idea - but it fascinated me at the time even though it didn't really come to anything. Although I'm not sure what a stand-up horror routine would be like, it'd probably consist of scary campfire-style stories or gruesome facts or something like that. One thing I couldn't work out at the time was what the person perfoming this would be called - since "comedian" or "comic" is hardly an appropriate term for horror (and the only other terms I could come up with at the time were seriously crappy ones like "scarer", "frightnener", "terrifier" etc... if I remember rightly)

I don't know, I was reminded of this idea a hour or two ago when I was reading the Wikipedia pages about this really interesting TV series called "Masters Of Horror" [which I first found by accident last night] - and even the plot descriptions of some of the episodes creeped the hell out of me.

As for the drawing, I really like how it turned out although I had to change the name of the club on the banner behind the stage from "The Mortuary Club" to "The Morgue Club" - because I couldn't quite fit the word "Mortuary" onto the banner.

Also, the black and white brickwork behind the stage was kind of inspired by this wonderfully gothic-looking house which I saw in Aberystwyth a couple of years ago.
